Currency Buzz: INR Depreciates Amid Higher Oil Prices
29-Mar-23   17:30 Hrs IST

The Indian rupee depreciated against the dollar and ended lower by 21 paise at Rs 82.37 on Wednesday despite positive cues from domestic equities. Indian shares ended Wednesday's session notably higher as banking concerns continued to ease. The benchmark S&P/BSE Sensex jumped 346.37 points, or 0.60 percent, to 57,960.09 while the broader NSE Nifty index settled 129 points, or 0.76 percent, higher at 17,080.70. However, slight rebound in greenback and spike in crude oil prices kept the rupee under check. WTI crude oil was up more than 1% at $74.11 per barrel. At the interbank foreign exchange market, rupee opened at Rs 82.27 against the dollar and registered an intraday high and low of 82.16 and 82.37 respectively before ending the day at 82.37, down 21 paise as compared to previous close at 82.16.
