Japan stock market finished session lower on Tuesday, 26 September 2023, as risk aversion selloff triggered amid caution over further monetary tightening by the U.S. Federal Reserve.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average index dropped 363.57 points, or 1.11%, to finish at 32,315.05. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange declined 13.58 points, or 0.57%, to 2,371.94.
Shares of exporters particularly automakers and chip related companies declined amid concerns over the U.S. economy's prospects. Tokyo Electron dropped 3.7% to 20,165 yen, while chip-testing equipment maker Advantest slumped 2.2% to 16,130 yen. Among auto issues, Toyota Motor slipped 1.6%, to 2,716.5 yen and Nissan Motor lost 2% to 678.6 yen.
Japan Exchange Group rallied 2.4% after the operator of the Tokyo Stock Exchange raised its annual net profit forecast.
