Chinese stocks rose on Thursday due to expectations of new government support for the economy. The Shanghai Composite increased by 1.13% to 3,956.6, and the Shenzhen Component climbed by 1.50% to 14,048.9.
Industrial profits in China grew by 17.6% year-on-year to CNY 4.58 trillion in the first seven months of 2026, but growth slowed from 18.7% in the first six months. Investors are looking forward to the National People’s Congress Standing Committee meeting on August 28 for potential economic growth measures.
Technology and semiconductor stocks were significant contributors to the gains. Hygon Information Technology rose by 6.50%, Victory Giant Technology gained 5.46%, Cambricon Technologies added 2.75%, and SMIC increased by 1.76%.
