Chinese equities retreated on Monday as recent policy interventions proved insufficient to bolster investor sentiment. Heightened global interest rates and escalating geopolitical uncertainties weighed on market participants. The Shanghai Composite Index, a barometer of major mainland corporations, declined 0.43% to a two-month trough. A subdued tone prevailed across Asian markets, with Japanese exchanges closed for a holiday. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index increased 0.25%. China’s senior securities regulator, Wu Qing, engaged with market stakeholders on Saturday to gather recommendations for capital market enhancements. Previously, on Friday, regulators released proposed regulations designed to reduce the requirements for establishing equity mutual funds.
