The key equity barometers traded with minor gains in early trade. Nifty opened at 23576 and hit a high of 23593 in first half hour of trade. Nifty IT, Nifty FMCG and Nifty 50 shares rose, while Nifty Realty and Nifty Consumer Durables shares fell.
At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, posted modest gains of 224.59 points or 0.30% to 75,006.35. The Nifty 50 index added 76.10 points or 0.33% to 23,474.20.
The broader market lagged behind the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index lost 0.23% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved lower by 0.36%.
The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1892 shares advanced and 2164 shares retreated. A total of 324 shares were unchanged.
Nifty IT index spiked 4.90% to 30339. The index has lost 9.12% in last one month and tumbled 19.67% over last one year. Mphasis, strengthening 7.01%, led the gainers followed by HCL Technologies, rising 6.63% and LTM, advancing 5.97%, respectively. All 10 constituents are advancing today.
Nifty FMCG index rose 1.06% to 45533. The index has shed 7.65% in last one month and registered heavy losses of 20.90% over last one year. Emami, edging up 4.97%, led the gainers followed by Dabur India, gaining 2.26% and Hind. Unilever, up 1.32%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 12 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Realty index inched down 1%. The index has posted modest losses of 4.57% in last one month and posted modest losses of 3.99% over last one year. Prestige Estates, easing 2.05%, led the losers followed by Godrej Propert., losing 1.31% and DLF, down 0.82%, respectively. All 10 index constituents are reporting losses today.
In NIFTY500, Tata Chemicals is the top gainer today, spiking 20% to Rs 734.50. The counter has slumped 36.75% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 40730.33 in last five sessions compared to 35599.33 over last one month.
Asian markets were marginally lower on Tuesday. China’s Shanghai composite is slightly lower by 0.10%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is modestly lower by 0.39%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is slightly higher by 0.33%.
