The key equity barometers traded with marginal losses in early trade. Nifty opened at 23522 and hit a high of 23536 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Healthcare Index, Nifty Metal and Nifty Pharma shares advanced, while Nifty IT and Nifty Financial Services shares declined.
At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, lost 450.66 points or 0.60% to 75,126.92. The Nifty 50 index inched down 122.70 points or 0.52% to 23,512.40.
The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved lower by 0.18% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index posted modest losses of 0.07%.
The market breadth was soft. On the BSE, 1756 shares gained and 2062 shares fell. A total of 228 shares were unchanged.
Nifty Healthcare Index index added 0.49% to 16706. The index has posted modest losses of 0.16% in last one month and soared 15.21% over last one year. Max Healthcare, up 3.50%, led the gainers followed by Biocon, gaining 2.13% and Apollo Hospitals, adding 1.36%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 14 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Metal index inched up 0.38% to 13206. The index has inched lower by 0.53% in last one month and spiked 35.38% over last one year. Hindustan Copper, inching higher 1.98%, led the gainers followed by Welspun Corp, edging up 1.21% and Natl. Aluminium, edging up 1.19%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 11 are reporting gains today.
Nifty IT index declined 2.86%. The index has declined 5.53% in last one month and slipped 12.90% over last one year. Coforge, retreating 5.65%, led the losers followed by HCL Technologies, easing 3.67% and Infosys, slipping 3.50%, respectively. All 10 index constituents are reporting losses today.
In NIFTY500, Graphite India is the top gainer today, posting strong gains of 13.20% to Rs 831.40. The counter has rallied 42.56% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 109865 in last five sessions compared to 73720.91 over last one month.
Asian markets were marginally higher on Wednesday. China’s Shanghai composite is marginally higher by 0.24%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is down 0.20%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 remained flat.
