Local stock markets are poised for a steady start today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are trading 0.17 points higher, suggesting a mildly positive start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market ended slightly higher in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 in positive territory.The BSE Sensex has edged lower 3.81% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has eased 3.35% over the same period.
In Asia today, sentiment was slightly firmer. China’s SSE Composite Index moved higher 0.53% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 posted modest gains of 1.38%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index inched higher 0.33%.
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 599 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 1,019 crore in the Indian equity market on 20 September 2026, provisional data showed.
Overnight on Wall Street, stocks ticked up across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down by 95.40 points, or 0.18%, and closed at 51703.64. The S&P 500 edged up 0.11% to end at 7667.04, and the NASDAQ Composite ticked up 0.35% to 26532.01.
Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex slipped 19.63 points or 0.03% to 74294.96. The Nifty 50 index edged lower 75.80 points or 0.33% to 23346.40. Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, moving higher by 4.93% to Rs 1824. The stock has moved higher around 1.43% in last one-week and stands lower 10.47% over last one-month.
In sectoral indices, only Nifty Metal index ended slightly higher yesterday, up 1.51% on the day.
