Gift Nifty traded marginally higher, Asian markets edged higher

Local stock markets are likely to start on a cautious note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are trading 0.04 points higher, suggesting a mildly positive start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market edged lower in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 modestly lower.The BSE Sensex has drifted lower 3.77% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has eased 3.86% over the same period.


In Asia today, sentiment was steady. China’s SSE Composite Index moved higher 0.31% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 ticked up 0.35%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slipped 0.18%.


Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 123 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 1,349 crore in the Indian equity market on 8 September 2026, provisional data showed.


Overnight on Wall Street, stocks eased across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was modestly lower by 628.18 points, or 1.18%, and closed at 52807.07. The S&P 500 drifted lower 0.57% to end at 7695.13, and the NASDAQ Composite edged lower 0.32% to 26444.21.


Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex posted modest losses of 555.23 points or 0.73% to 75577.58. The Nifty 50 index ended slightly lower by 262.60 points or 1.10% to 23635.10. Bharat Electronics Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, inching higher 1.62% to Rs 410.55. The stock has risen slightly around 1.43% in last one-week and remains down 10.47% over last one-month.


In sectoral indices, only Nifty Pharma index inched higher yesterday, rising 1.52% on the day.
