Local stock markets may see a muted to weaker start today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are trading 0.16 points lower, suggesting a muted to negative start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market finished marginally lower in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 marginally lower.The BSE Sensex has edged lower 3.16% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has posted modest losses of 3.64% over the same period.
In Asia today, sentiment was optimistic. China’s SSE Composite Index inched higher 0.62% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 ticked up 0.86%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index posted modest gains of 2.21%.
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 2,345 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 4,977 crore in the Indian equity market on 3 September 2026, provisional data showed.
Overnight on Wall Street, stocks edged higher across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended higher by 624.16 points, or 1.18%, and closed at 53707.11. The S&P 500 moved higher 1.06% to end at 7769.27, and the NASDAQ Composite edged up 1.39% to 26604.65.
Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex slipped 417.49 points or 0.55% to 76152.86. The Nifty 50 index eased 41 points or 0.17% to 23873.45. Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, rising slightly by 2.02% to Rs 1706.50. The stock has risen slightly around 1.43% in last one-week and is weaker 10.47% over last one-month.
In sectoral indices, only Nifty Realty index ticked up yesterday, advancing 2.58% on the day.
