Japanese stocks faced pressure today despite strong signals from US markets. The Nikkei 225 Index fell 643 points, or 1%, to close at 63,719 points. Major losses were seen in Nippon Electric Glass, down 17.55%, Fanuc, down 15.39%, and Toto, down around 13%. Although the Nikkei had risen last week, volatility in the currency market limited gains. The US and Japan confirmed actions to support the yen, which recently dropped to a nearly four-decade low. The US dollar approached the 155-yen mark, impacting Japanese stocks. Over the past month, the Nikkei has decreased about 8.60%. On a positive note, Japan’s manufacturing output rose sharply in July, with a PMI of 54.5.
