The key domestic indices closed with strong gains. Nifty IT, Nifty Realty and Nifty 50 shares advanced, while Nifty Pharma shares declined.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, soared 1109.10 points or 1.54% to 73,033.78. The Nifty 50 index rallied 358.60 points or 1.60% to 22,721.95. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex advanced by 2.20% and 2.01%, respectively.
The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index gained 0.92% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.43%.
The market breadth was favorable. On the BSE, 2996 shares rose and 2156 shares fell. A total of 241 shares were unchanged.
Infosys Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 217.81 lakh shares and recorded a sharp increase of 100.30% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has fallen sharply by around 5.29% in last one-month and has plunged 31.69% over last one year.
HCL Technologies Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 217.45 lakh shares and saw a sharp increase of 736.20% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has declined around 2.45% in last one-month and has tumbled 18.18% over last one year.
Index action
The Nifty IT index advanced sharply by 5.22% to 29830.1 today. The index is up 0.17% in last one week and has inched lower by 4.08% over last one month. It has dropped significantly by 19.76% in last one year. HCL Technologies Ltd (up 8.42%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (up 6.79%), Tech Mahindra Ltd (up 4.93%), LTM Ltd (up 4.88%) and Mphasis Ltd (up 4.79%) advanced.
The Nifty Realty index advanced by 2.46% to 829.95 today. The index has dropped sharply by 3.53% in last one week and has posted modest losses of 0.52% over last one month. It slipped by 9.67% in last one year. Aditya Birla Real Estate Ltd (up 5.02%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (up 3.88%), Phoenix Mills Ltd (up 3.40%), Godrej Properties Ltd (up 3.22%) and Sobha Ltd (up 2.46%) went up.
The Nifty Pharma index eased by 0.01% to 26075.0 today. The index is modestly lower by 0.15% in last one week and has eased by 0.42% over last one month. It surged by 17.45% in last one year. Ajanta Pharma Ltd (down 2.09%), Divis Laboratories Ltd (down 1.50%), Aurobindo Pharma Ltd (down 1.31%), Mankind Pharma Ltd (down 1.17%) and Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd (down 0.84%) moved down.
The Nifty Realty index rose for a third session in a row today. Aditya Birla Real Estate Ltd (up 5.02%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (up 3.88%), Phoenix Mills Ltd (up 3.40%), Godrej Properties Ltd (up 3.22%) and Sobha Ltd (up 2.46%) rose.
