The key domestic indices rallied. Nifty Metal, Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty Chemicals shares advanced, while Nifty Media and Nifty IT shares fell.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, recorded robust gains of 1233.25 points or 1.66% to 75,692.78. The Nifty 50 index surged 387.70 points or 1.68% to 23,440.80. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex surged by 3.27% and 3.34%, respectively.
The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index gained 1.23% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index registered sharp gains of 1.53%.
The market breadth was favorable. On the BSE, 3377 shares rose and 1973 shares declined. A total of 213 shares were unchanged.
Reliance Industries Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 881.21 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 468.38% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has retreated by around 1.86% in last one-month and has dropped sharply 21.74% over last one year.
Tata Steel Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 299.09 lakh shares and saw a sharp spurt of 46.79% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has fallen sharply by around 9.06% in last one-month and has lost significant ground 9.09% over last one year.
In NSE500, ITI Ltd staged a sharp intraday rebound of 20.87%.The stock tested low of Rs 214.39 and ended at Rs 259.14, jumping around 20% on the day.
Index action
The Nifty Metal index surged 3.21% to 12162.7 today. The index has rallied by 2.67% in last one week and has retreated 7.65% over last one month. It edged higher by 9.84% in last one year. Tata Steel Ltd (up 5.83%), JSW Steel Ltd (up 5.13%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (up 4.28%), Jindal Steel Ltd (up 3.84%) and Vedanta Ltd (up 3.40%) jumped.
The Nifty Consumer Durables index rallied 2.70% to 35457.4 today. The index is slightly higher by 1.78% in last one week and has lost 5.74% over last one month. It has declined by 11.26% in last one year. Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd (up 11.99%), Amber Enterprises India Ltd (up 6.10%), Kajaria Ceramics Ltd (up 2.24%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd (up 1.80%) and Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd (up 1.50%) gained.
The Nifty Media index inched down by 0.76% to 1618.9 today. The index has jumped by 4.34% in last one week and has inched higher by 3.03% over last one month. It edged up by 4.64% in last one year. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (down 7.26%), Sun TV Network Ltd (down 2.66%), Prime Focus Ltd (down 2.38%) and Saregama India Ltd (down 0.50%) traded lower.
The Nifty IT index eased by 0.50% to 32442.5 today. The index has climbed by 1.91% in last one week and has jumped 17.69% over last one month. It is down around 9.19% in last one year. Oracle Financial Services Software Ltd (down 2.51%), Infosys Ltd (down 2.03%), Wipro Ltd (down 0.96%), Tech Mahindra Ltd (down 0.22%) and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (down 0.04%) moved lower.
The Nifty Financial Services index rose for a third session in a row today. Shriram Finance Ltd (up 4.88%), Muthoot Finance Ltd (up 4.41%), Jio Financial Services Ltd (up 4.28%), State Bank of India (up 2.61%) and Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company Ltd (up 2.42%) advanced.
Global Markets
European markets saw a mild uptick.
DOW futures are trading a little higher by 0.54% today.
MCX Crude oil futures are trading with steep losses of 4.96% at Rs 9915.0 per barrel.
NIFTY50 futures ended higher by 1.37% at 23415 and are in a discount of 26 points compared to NIFTY50.
