The key domestic indices ended with modest gains. Nifty Chemicals, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Private Bank shares advanced, while Nifty IT and Nifty Realty shares fell.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, increased by 685.34 points or 0.95% to 73,067.81. The Nifty 50 index climbed 220.35 points or 0.98% to 22,776.10. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex inched up by 0.69% and 0.81%, respectively.
The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index gained 1.23% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index advanced 1.38%.
The market breadth was encouraging. On the BSE, 3330 shares rose and 1915 shares retreated. A total of 231 shares were unchanged.
Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 400.22 lakh shares and recorded a sharp spurt of 11.91% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock is down around 1.45% in last one-month and has retreated 3.08% over last one year.
Eternal Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 270.76 lakh shares and posted a sharp drop of 3.29% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock remained flat in last one-month and has dropped sharply 4.27% over last one year.
Index action
The Nifty Chemicals index gained 1.98% to 28541.15 today. The index is lower by 2.46% in last one week and has declined 6.59% over last one month. It has edged lower by 4.10% in last one year. Deepak Fertilisers & Petrochemicals Corp Ltd (up 6.77%), Deepak Nitrite Ltd (up 4.25%), Gujarat Fluorochemicals Ltd (up 3.33%), Navin Fluorine International Ltd (up 3.19%) and Solar Industries India Ltd (up 2.72%) moved higher.
The Nifty Pharma index advanced by 1.66% to 26549.6 today. The index has lost 2.41% in last one week and has inched lower by 2.09% over last one month. It rallied by 19.91% in last one year. Wockhardt Ltd (up 5.47%), Laurus Labs Ltd (up 3.99%), Divis Laboratories Ltd (up 3.85%), Gland Pharma Ltd (up 3.25%) and Sai Life Sciences Ltd (up 3.10%) went up.
The Nifty IT index edged lower by 0.59% to 28136.05 today. The index is marginally higher by 0.77% in last one week and has fallen 5.65% over last one month. It is sharply lower by 18.49% in last one year. Tech Mahindra Ltd (down 2.04%), LTM Ltd (down 0.97%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (down 0.68%), Infosys Ltd (down 0.65%) and Wipro Ltd (down 0.19%) moved lower.
The Nifty Realty index eased by 0.27% to 837.45 today. The index has slipped by 1.32% in last one week and has shed 5.92% over last one month. It has eased by 4.81% in last one year. Phoenix Mills Ltd (down 2.66%), DLF Ltd (down 1.03%), Sobha Ltd (down 0.63%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd (down 0.44%) and Aditya Birla Real Estate Ltd (down 0.42%) went down.
The Nifty Private Bank index rose for a third session in a row today. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd (up 3.82%), IndusInd Bank Ltd (up 2.20%), Axis Bank Ltd (up 2.11%), HDFC Bank Ltd (up 0.94%) and ICICI Bank Ltd (up 0.81%) jumped.
Global Markets
European markets picked up slightly.
DOW futures are trading a little higher by 0.56% today.
MCX Crude oil futures are trading with steep losses of 2.90% at Rs 8682.0 per barrel.
NIFTY50 futures ended modestly higher by 0.79% at 22799 and are in a premium of 23 points compared to NIFTY50.
