The key domestic indices posted modest losses. Nifty FMCG, Nifty IT and Nifty Chemicals shares advanced, while Nifty Pharma and Nifty Healthcare Index shares declined.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 251.89 points or 0.34% to 72,781.89. The Nifty 50 index moved lower by 99.25 points or 0.44% to 22,622.70.
The broader market surpassed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched down 0.05% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index inched up 0.08%.
The market breadth was encouraging. On the BSE, 2944 shares gained and 2231 shares fell. A total of 203 shares were unchanged.
Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 249.75 lakh shares and posted a sharp drop of 12.04% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has risen sharply by around 7.13% in last one-month and has inched higher 1.99% over last one year.
HDFC Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 239.45 lakh shares and registered a sharp increase of 3.54% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has eased 0.36% in last one-month and has plunged 26.92% over last one year.
Index action
The Nifty FMCG index edged higher by 1.21% to 45271.7 today. The index is down 1.05% in last one week and has eased by 0.22% over last one month. It has declined sharply by 17.89% in last one year. Nestle India Ltd (up 3.69%), Tata Consumer Products Ltd (up 2.91%), Britannia Industries Ltd (up 2.64%), Dabur India Ltd (up 2.55%) and Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd (up 1.41%) jumped.
The Nifty Pharma index inched down by 1.30% to 25736.95 today. The index is marginally lower by 1.79% in last one week and has edged lower 0.43% over last one month. It is sharply higher by around 17.43% in last one year. Divis Laboratories Ltd (down 2.82%), Sai Life Sciences Ltd (down 2.07%), Dr Reddys Laboratories Ltd (down 1.94%), Mankind Pharma Ltd (down 1.56%) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (down 1.37%) retreated.
The Nifty Healthcare Index index edged lower by 1.25% to 15663.0 today. The index is slightly lower by 1.49% in last one week and has slipped by 2.69% over last one month. It inched up by 7.55% in last one year. Divis Laboratories Ltd (down 2.82%), Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Ltd (down 2.39%), Dr Reddys Laboratories Ltd (down 1.94%), Mankind Pharma Ltd (down 1.56%) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (down 1.37%) moved lower.
The Nifty Chemicals index rose for a third session in a row today. P I Industries Ltd (up 4.17%), Swan Corp Ltd (up 3.25%), UPL Ltd (up 3.23%), Jubilant Ingrevia Ltd (up 2.83%) and Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd (up 2.22%) went up.
