The key domestic indices finished slightly higher. Nifty IT, Nifty Media and Nifty Metal shares gained, while Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty FMCG shares declined.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 413.66 points or 0.56% to 74,729.27. The Nifty 50 index inched up 148.80 points or 0.65% to 23,146.15. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex climbed by 1.87% and 2.32%, respectively.
The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest gains of 0.05% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index inched down 0.06%.
The market breadth was encouraging. On the BSE, 2866 shares rose and 2278 shares retreated. A total of 253 shares were unchanged.
Tata Steel Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 428.68 lakh shares and registered a sharp increase of 98.38% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slumped by around 3.95% in last one-month and has inched higher 1.82% over last one year.
HDFC Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 289.37 lakh shares and recorded a sharp spurt of 20.95% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has inched higher by around 1.44% in last one-month and has lost significant ground 25.70% over last one year.

The Nifty IT index rallied 3.92% to 31924.1 today. The index has soared by 10.76% in last one week and has moved higher by 3.94% over last one month. It has weakened by 13.23% in last one year. Tech Mahindra Ltd (up 8.48%), Wipro Ltd (up 5.95%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (up 4.89%), Infosys Ltd (up 4.61%) and LTM Ltd (up 3.66%) gained.
The Nifty Media index moved up by 1.92% to 1648.25 today. The index has jumped by 5.39% in last one week and has added 7.53% over last one month. It has edged higher by 5.06% in last one year. Tips Music Ltd (up 9.13%), Prime Focus Ltd (up 4.63%), Nazara Technologies Ltd (up 2.82%), Saregama India Ltd (up 2.30%) and Sun TV Network Ltd (up 1.41%) advanced.
The Nifty Consumer Durables index inched down by 0.61% to 36247.95 today. The index has gained 2.40% in last one week and has inched lower by 3.93% over last one month. It eased by 4.45% in last one year. Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd (down 2.57%), Voltas Ltd (down 2.18%), Blue Star Ltd (down 1.53%), LG Electronics India Ltd (down 0.70%) and PG Electroplast Ltd (down 0.52%) dropped.
The Nifty FMCG index edged lower by 0.39% to 44616.15 today. The index has climbed by 2.04% in last one week and has eased by 0.09% over last one month. It has declined sharply by 18.19% in last one year. Britannia Industries Ltd (down 1.77%), Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (down 1.66%), Tata Consumer Products Ltd (down 1.27%), Nestle India Ltd (down 0.81%) and Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd (down 0.57%) declined.
