The key domestic indices ended higher. Nifty IT, Nifty FMCG and Nifty PSU Bank shares advanced.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, advanced 879.09 points or 1.23% to 72,472.33. The Nifty 50 index rose 288.65 points or 1.30% to 22,520.45. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex edged lower by 1.12% and 0.81%, respectively.
The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index climbed 1.06% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.43%.
The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 3018 shares gained and 2137 shares retreated. A total of 222 shares were unchanged.
Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 315.37 lakh shares and registered a sharp decline of 20.63% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has surged around 3.76% in last one-month and has moved higher 2.70% over last one year.
ITC Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 310.31 lakh shares and saw a sharp decline of 18.90% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slumped by around 3.23% in last one-month and has lost significant ground 36.21% over last one year.
Index action
The Nifty IT index soared 3.02% to 28574.9 today. The index has lost 2.01% in last one week and has declined 7.18% over last one month. It dropped sharply by 21.27% in last one year. Persistent Systems Ltd (up 5.52%), LTM Ltd (up 3.96%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (up 3.85%), HCL Technologies Ltd (up 3.38%) and Coforge Ltd (up 2.95%) jumped.
The Nifty FMCG index climbed by 2.20% to 44864.25 today. The index has edged up by 0.25% in last one week and has drifted lower by 4.05% over last one month. It has retreated substantially by 19.44% in last one year. Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd (up 4.73%), ITC Ltd (up 4.31%), United Spirits Ltd (up 3.63%), Radico Khaitan Ltd (up 3.06%) and Dabur India Ltd (up 2.63%) moved higher.
