The key domestic indices closed marginally lower. Nifty Realty and Nifty PSU Bank shares gained, while Nifty Auto and Nifty Media shares fell.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, lost 373.93 points or 0.49% to 76,570.35. The Nifty 50 index edged lower by 141.35 points or 0.59% to 23,914.45. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex eased by 1.08% and 0.90%, respectively.
The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved lower by 0.55% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index posted modest losses of 0.51%.
The market breadth was soft. On the BSE, 2184 shares advanced and 2910 shares retreated. A total of 237 shares were unchanged.
HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 369.5 lakh shares and posted a modest drop of 1.14% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has tumbled 5.46% in last one-month and has fallen sharply 25.11% over last one year.
Coal India Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 341.31 lakh shares and recorded a sharp spurt of 190.65% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slumped by around 3.46% in last one-month and has climbed sharply 6.27% over last one year.
Index action
The Nifty Realty index gained modestly by 0.21% to 893.15 today. The index has declined sharply by 2.89% in last one week and has slipped by 2.38% over last one month. It inched up by 1.31% in last one year. Phoenix Mills Ltd (up 1.45%), Lodha Developers Ltd (up 1.21%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (up 0.76%) and Anant Raj Ltd (up 0.18%) traded higher.
The Nifty Auto index decreased by 1.79% to 27981.95 today. The index has fallen by 2.48% in last one week and has eased by 2.32% over last one month. It has risen by 11.03% in last one year. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (down 4.59%), Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (down 3.32%), Eicher Motors Ltd (down 3.24%), Uno Minda Ltd (down 3.01%) and Bosch Ltd (down 2.68%) dropped.
The Nifty Media index declined by 1.75% to 1534.1 today. The index is sharply lower by 3.02% in last one week and has inched lower by 0.46% over last one month. It eased by 2.83% in last one year. Saregama India Ltd (down 3.33%), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (down 3.04%), Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd (down 2.89%), Prime Focus Ltd (down 2.15%) and Tips Music Ltd (down 1.87%) fell.
