The key domestic indices ended on a strong note. Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Bank shares advanced, while Nifty Media shares declined.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rallied 1718.01 points or 2.17% to 81,028.02. The Nifty 50 index soared 493.75 points or 2.01% to 25,030.35. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex advanced sharply by 5.12% and 5.34%, respectively.
The broader market lagged behind the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved lower by 0.16% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index retreated 0.91%.
The market breadth was unfavorable. On the BSE, 2279 shares gained and 2973 shares fell. A total of 234 shares were unchanged.
HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 734.83 lakh shares and recorded a sharp increase of 89.20% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has jumped by around 7.83% in last one-month and has lost significant ground 22.82% over last one year.
ICICI Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 403.83 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 148.39% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has risen sharply by around 12.61% in last one-month and has climbed sharply 13.60% over last one year.
In NSE500, Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions Ltd posted a sharp intraday rebound of 23.35%.The stock tested low of Rs 1021.2 and ended at Rs 1259.7, lower by about 1.32% on the day.

The Nifty Private Bank index rose sharply by 3.22% to 29503.4 today. The index is sharply higher by 5.66% in last one week and has climbed 6.98% over last one month. It is up around 2.77% in last one year. Yes Bank Ltd (up 5.91%), ICICI Bank Ltd (up 4.75%), HDFC Bank Ltd (up 3.72%), Axis Bank Ltd (up 3.35%) and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd (up 2.78%) jumped.
The Nifty Financial Services index surged 2.57% to 27283.95 today. The index has jumped by 7.67% in last one week and has risen 7.88% over last one month. It has slipped by 1.60% in last one year. ICICI Bank Ltd (up 4.75%), HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (up 3.95%), HDFC Bank Ltd (up 3.72%), Axis Bank Ltd (up 3.35%) and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (up 2.82%) moved up.
The Nifty Media index shed 1.52% to 1670.5 today. The index has climbed by 2.47% in last one week and has gained 8.70% over last one month. It rose by 13.56% in last one year. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (down 5.12%), MPS Ltd (down 2.37%), Saregama India Ltd (down 1.96%), Nazara Technologies Ltd (down 1.32%) and Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd (down 1.18%) moved lower.
