NIFTY moves down, Nifty Metal gains market attention as it moves 1.31% higher

The key equity barometers traded with minor losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23549-23467. Nifty Metal and Nifty PSU Bank shares gained, while Nifty IT and Nifty Realty shares retreated.


At 10:45 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, moved lower by 509.02 points or 0.67% to 75,068.56. The Nifty 50 index inched down 123.05 points or 0.52% to 23,512.05.


The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest losses of 0.20% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index lost 0.24%.


The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 1953 shares advanced and 2627 shares fell. A total of 261 shares were unchanged.


Nifty Metal index advanced 1.31% to 13328. The index has posted modest losses of 0.53% in last one month and surged 35.38% over last one year. Adani Enterp., climbing 5.75%, led the gainers followed by Tata Steel, adding 2.77% and Natl. Aluminium, gaining 1.85%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 12 are reporting gains today.


Nifty PSU Bank index edged higher by 0.08% to 8419. The index has eased by 2.63% in last one month and spiked 22.11% over last one year. Indian Bank, inching higher 0.36%, led the gainers followed by Canara Bank, up 0.32% and Bank of India, edging up 0.18%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 5 are reporting gains today.


Nifty IT index shed 2.98%. The index has lost 5.53% in last one month and fell 12.90% over last one year. Coforge, easing 4.37%, led the losers followed by Infosys, edging lower 3.96% and HCL Technologies, losing 3.55%, respectively. All 10 index constituents are reporting losses today.


Out of 14 sectoral indices on NSE, 12 are in red today. Nifty Metal index is down 0.53% in last one month and is sharply higher by 35.38% over last year. Nifty IT index has suffered sharp declines of 5.53% in last one month and has slumped 12.90% over last one year.


From NIFTY50 index, Biocon, Vodafone Idea AND Meesho are leading in terms of volumes today, clocking turnover of 67197.18 lakh shares, 1821.23 lakh shares and 21811.05 lakh shares respectively.


Asian markets were marginally lower on Wednesday. China’s Shanghai composite is up 0.19%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is marginally lower by 0.41%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is modestly lower by 0.08%.


NIFTY50 Sep-26 futures are in discount of 111.95 points today.
