The key equity barometers traded with modest losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 22718-22578. Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Media and Nifty Private Bank shares advanced, while Nifty Metal and Nifty Auto shares declined.
NIFTY posted modest gains of 0.98% in last session and tanked 4.22% over last one-week.
At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, posted modest losses of 188.88 points or 0.26% to 72,878.93. The Nifty 50 index moved lower by 80.10 points or 0.35% to 22,696.
The broader market surpassed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index lost 0.33% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved higher by 0.09%.
The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 2303 shares gained and 2541 shares fell. A total of 265 shares were unchanged.
Nifty PSU Bank index gained 1.13% to 8099. The index has eased by 4.94% in last one month and edged higher by 5.16% over last one year. Union Bank (I), gaining 2.52%, led the gainers followed by Bank of Maha, adding 2.44% and Indian Bank, up 2.11%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 10 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Media index posted modest gains of 0.42% to 1574. The index has posted modest gains of 3.09% in last one month and posted modest losses of 1.43% over last one year. PVR Inox, moving higher 6.31%, led the gainers followed by D B Corp, inching higher 0.67% and MPS, edging up 0.41%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 5 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Metal index retreated 1.55%. The index has drifted lower by 4.21% in last one month and posted strong gains of 23.70% over last one year. Natl. Aluminium, edging lower 3.74%, led the losers followed by S A I L, down 2.55% and Jindal Steel, easing 2.30%, respectively. All 15 index constituents are reporting losses today.
Asian markets were marginally lower on Wednesday. China’s Shanghai composite is slightly higher by 0.31%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is slightly lower by 0.49%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is trading lower by 0.92%.
In Europe, German DAX eased 0.42%, UK’s FTSE 100 moved up 0.42% and French CAC edged up 0.40%.
In Commodities, MCX Crude oil is up 1.10% to trade at Rs 8,630 per barrel.
