NIFTY moves down, Nifty Pharma takes centre stage, advancing 0.88%

The key equity barometers traded with modest losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23759-23657. Nifty Pharma and Nifty Healthcare Index shares rose, while Nifty IT and Nifty Realty shares declined.


At 10:45 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 380.03 points or 0.50% to 75,752.78. The Nifty 50 index shed 225.85 points or 0.95% to 23,671.85.


The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index added 0.08% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved higher by 0.08%.


The market breadth was soft. On the BSE, 2190 shares gained and 2433 shares retreated. A total of 231 shares were unchanged.


Nifty Pharma index added 0.88% to 26710. The index has posted modest gains of 0.50% in last one month and posted strong gains of 22% over last one year. Piramal Pharma, adding 3.94%, led the gainers followed by Laurus Labs, up 1.93% and Aurobindo Pharma, gaining 1.59%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 13 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Healthcare Index index moved higher by 0.74% to 16529. The index has posted modest losses of 1.13% in last one month and rose 14.49% over last one year. Piramal Pharma, edging up 3.94%, led the gainers followed by Laurus Labs, inching higher 1.93% and Aurobindo Pharma, edging up 1.59%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 11 are reporting gains today.


Nifty IT index shed 2.49%. The index has eased by 4.92% in last one month and fell 12.58% over last one year. Mphasis, edging lower 0.88%, led the losers followed by Oracle Fin.Serv., easing 0.85% and Wipro, slipping 0.78%, respectively. All 10 index constituents are reporting losses today.


Out of 14 sectoral indices on NSE, 12 are in red today. Nifty Pharma index is slightly higher by 0.50% in last one month and has rallied 22% over last year. Nifty IT index has suffered sharp declines of 4.92% in last one month and has registered heavy losses of 12.58% over last one year.


From NIFTY50 index, IFCI, Vodafone Idea AND Meesho are leading in terms of volumes today, clocking turnover of 9900.65 lakh shares, 1541.11 lakh shares and 17298.37 lakh shares respectively.


Asian markets traded slightly lower on Tuesday. China’s Shanghai composite is up 0.23%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is marginally lower by 0.29%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is down 0.33%.


NIFTY50 Sep-26 futures are in discount of 110.15 points today.
