The key equity barometers traded with gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 22534-22295. Nifty IT, Nifty FMCG and Nifty Auto shares advanced.
NIFTY recorded steep losses of 1.64% in last session and registered heavy losses of 5.94% over last one-week.
At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rose 730.41 points or 1.02% to 72,323.65. The Nifty 50 index advanced 262.40 points or 1.18% to 22,494.20.
The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest gains of 0.71% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index added 0.02%.
The market breadth was well-supported. On the BSE, 2701 shares gained and 2123 shares declined. A total of 245 shares were unchanged.
Nifty IT index gained 2.30% to 28375. The index has declined 7.18% in last one month and tumbled 21.27% over last one year. TCS, adding 4.21%, led the gainers followed by Wipro, inching higher 2.59% and Infosys, gaining 2.41%, respectively. All 10 constituents are advancing today.
Nifty FMCG index advanced 1.65% to 44623. The index has eased by 4.05% in last one month and plunged 19.44% over last one year. Colgate-Palmoliv, rising 5.34%, led the gainers followed by ITC, up 3.29% and United Spirits, edging up 2.03%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 14 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Auto index rallied 1.59% to 24903. The index has suffered sharp declines of 11.75% in last one month and lost 7.58% over last one year. Eicher Motors, up 3.26%, led the gainers followed by Uno Minda, inching higher 2.25% and Tata Motors PVeh, inching higher 1.98%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 14 are reporting gains today.
Asian markets gained on Friday. China’s Shanghai composite is slightly higher by 0.26%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is substantially higher by 1.38%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is slightly lower by 0.02%.
In Europe, German DAX ticked up 0.02%, UK’s FTSE 100 drifted lower 0.16% and French CAC slipped 0.51%.
In Commodities, MCX Gold inched up 0.98% to trade at Rs 1,49,735 per 10 grams. MCX Crude oil edged lower by 0.95% to trade at Rs 8,875 per barrel. MCX Copper edged higher by 0.93% to trade at Rs 1,408 per kg.
