NIFTY moves up, Nifty IT remains a key market focus, up 4.28%

The key equity barometers traded with minor gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 22581-22288. Nifty IT, Nifty FMCG and Nifty 50 shares advanced, while Nifty Chemicals and Nifty Media shares retreated.


NIFTY posted modest losses of 0.70% in last session and recorded sharp losses of 3.27% over last one-week.


At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 538.65 points or 0.75% to 72,463.33. The Nifty 50 index inched up 139.80 points or 0.63% to 22,503.15.


The broader market lagged behind the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved higher by 0.10% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved lower by 0.50%.


The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 2095 shares rose and 2724 shares declined. A total of 268 shares were unchanged.


Nifty IT index registered sharp gains of 4.28% to 29562. The index has slipped by 4.08% in last one month and registered heavy losses of 19.76% over last one year. HCL Technologies, climbing 7.34%, led the gainers followed by TCS, advancing 5.79% and Mphasis, edging up 4.85%, respectively. All 10 constituents are advancing today.


Nifty FMCG index edged higher by 0.79% to 44464. The index has inched lower by 1.60% in last one month and posted steep losses of 19.02% over last one year. United Breweries, up 3.65%, led the gainers followed by Hind. Unilever, adding 2.24% and Colgate-Palmoliv, gaining 1.39%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 11 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Chemicals index lost 0.87%. The index has drifted lower by 1.55% in last one month and posted modest losses of 2.97% over last one year. Navin Fluo.Intl., edging lower 2.68%, led the losers followed by Deepak Fertilis., losing 2.22% and PCBL Chemical, easing 2.05%, respectively. Out of 21 index constituents, 19 are reporting loss today.


Asian markets recorded sharp declines on Tuesday. China’s Shanghai composite is modestly lower by 0.01%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is marginally lower by 0.05%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is significantly lower by 1.82%.


In Europe, German DAX inched higher 0.37%, UK’s FTSE 100 moved up 0.99% and French CAC ticked up 0.38%.


In Commodities, MCX Crude oil fell 1.84% to trade at Rs 8,980 per barrel.
