NIFTY moves up, Nifty IT remains in focus, gaining 3.18%

The key equity barometers traded with modest gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 22581-22288. Nifty IT, Nifty FMCG and Nifty PSU Bank shares gained, while Nifty Media and Nifty Chemicals shares retreated.


At 10:45 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, moved higher by 499.09 points or 0.69% to 72,423.77. The Nifty 50 index edged higher by 134.55 points or 0.60% to 22,497.90.


The broader market failed to keep pace with frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest gains of 0.10% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index lost 0.51%.


The market breadth was unfavorable. On the BSE, 2173 shares rose and 2379 shares fell. A total of 262 shares were unchanged.


Nifty IT index jumped 3.18% to 29250. The index has edged lower 4.08% in last one month and plunged 19.76% over last one year. HCL Technologies, moving higher 5.77%, led the gainers followed by TCS, rising 5.08% and Tech Mahindra, up 3.33%, respectively. All 10 constituents are advancing today.


Nifty FMCG index moved higher by 0.68% to 44415. The index has inched lower by 1.60% in last one month and tumbled 19.02% over last one year. United Breweries, gaining 2.17%, led the gainers followed by Colgate-Palmoliv, edging up 1.60% and Varun Beverages, adding 1.46%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 10 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Media index moved lower by 0.83%. The index has gained 8.04% in last one month and posted modest gains of 3.93% over last one year. Prime Focus, down 3.55%, led the losers followed by Saregama India, edging lower 2.19% and D B Corp, slipping 0.88%, respectively. All 10 index constituents are reporting losses today.


Out of 14 sectoral indices on NSE, 9 are in green today. Nifty IT index has registered heavy losses of 4.08% in last one month and has posted steep losses of 19.76% over last year. Nifty Media index has registered sharp gains of 8.04% in last one month and is slightly higher by 3.93% over last one year.


From NIFTY50 index, Power Fin.Corpn., Vodafone Idea AND Suzlon Energy are leading in terms of volumes today, clocking turnover of 34818.01 lakh shares, 999.69 lakh shares and 2072.91 lakh shares respectively.


Asian markets declined on Tuesday. China’s Shanghai composite is modestly higher by 0.33%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is up 0.06%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is firmly lower by 2.04%.


NIFTY50 Oct-26 futures are in discount of 107.10 points today.
