The key equity barometers traded with modest losses in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 22622-22397. Nifty Consumer Durables, Nifty FMCG and Nifty PSU Bank shares advanced, while Nifty Healthcare Index and Nifty Pharma shares declined.
NIFTY had edged lower 0.88% in last session and tumbled 6.79% over last one-week.
At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, up 79.96 points to 71,989.66. The Nifty 50 index lost 6.80 points or 0.03% to 22,415.15.
The broader market underperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched up 0.27% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index remained flat.
The market breadth was fragile. On the BSE, 2175 shares rose and 2797 shares retreated. A total of 313 shares were unchanged.
Nifty Consumer Durables index rose 1.50% to 36468. The index has fallen 9.88% in last one month and inched down 3.87% over last one year. LG Electronics, edging up 4.80%, led the gainers followed by Crompton Gr. Con, adding 4.16% and Kalyan Jewellers, inching higher 4.09%, respectively. Out of 14 index constituents, 11 are reporting gains today.
Nifty FMCG index posted modest gains of 0.65% to 44074. The index has shed 5.74% in last one month and slumped 20.53% over last one year. Varun Beverages, gaining 1.87%, led the gainers followed by ITC, up 1.75% and Marico, up 1.50%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 7 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Healthcare Index index retreated 1.06%. The index has edged lower 3.45% in last one month and gained 12.41% over last one year. Krishna Institu., edging lower 3.16%, led the losers followed by Abbott India, down 2.88% and Max Healthcare, losing 2.63%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 18 are reporting loss today.
Asian markets recorded robust advances on Monday. China’s Shanghai composite is up 0.31%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is marginally lower by 0.11%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is significantly higher by 2.40%.
In Europe, German DAX ticked up 0.27%, UK’s FTSE 100 inched higher 0.32% and French CAC moved up 0.79%.
In Commodities, MCX Crude oil registered heavy losses of 3.53% to trade at Rs 9,006 per barrel.
