Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index concluded trading nearly flat at 69,031 on Friday, recouping a significant portion of its intraday decline. The rebound was spurred by indications that OpenAI anticipates annualised revenue to reach or surpass $70 billion by year-end, mitigating anxieties stemming from previously disclosed revenue figures that fell short of expectations.
Market participants are observing whether burgeoning revenues derived from artificial intelligence (AI) will substantiate the sector's substantial investment outlays. Japanese companies are key providers of the equipment and components utilized to construct global AI infrastructure, maintaining the sector's prominence.
Equities were bolstered by declining bond yields and a decrease in crude oil prices. This development occurred after US President Donald Trump indicated that Washington was engaged in “productive discussions” with Iran and would refrain from military action prior to the US midterm elections.
However, technology and AI-related equities faced sustained selling pressure. Kioxia Holdings decreased by 2.2%, SoftBank Group retreated 3.9%, and Murata Manufacturing declined 3.6%, illustrating persistent investor apprehension concerning the sector.
