SENSEX advances

The key equity barometers traded with steady gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23360-23212. Nifty Consumer Durables, Nifty Metal and Nifty Auto shares advanced, while Nifty Media shares fell.


NIFTY inched higher by 0.51% in last session and climbed 1.91% over last one-week.


At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rose 955.28 points or 1.28% to 75,414.81. The Nifty 50 index climbed 269.45 points or 1.17% to 23,322.55.


The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index advanced 1.43% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rallied 1.81%.


The market breadth was favorable. On the BSE, 3324 shares gained and 1594 shares declined. A total of 272 shares were unchanged.


Nifty Consumer Durables index rose 2.91% to 35531. The index has fallen 5.74% in last one month and fell 11.26% over last one year. Dixon Technolog., spiking 12.94%, led the gainers followed by Amber Enterp., strengthening 6.59% and Kajaria Ceramics, edging up 3.20%, respectively. Out of 14 index constituents, 13 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Metal index rallied 2.18% to 12042. The index has lost 7.65% in last one month and inched up 9.84% over last one year. Tata Steel, up 4.53%, led the gainers followed by Jindal Steel, adding 4.19% and S A I L, inching higher 3.66%, respectively. All 15 constituents are advancing today.


Nifty Media index edged lower by 0.30%. The index has moved higher by 3.03% in last one month and posted modest gains of 4.64% over last one year. Zee Entertainmen, falling 5.70%, led the losers followed by Sun TV Network, slipping 0.26% and Saregama India, easing 0.18%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 5 are reporting loss today.


Asian markets posted modest gains on Monday. China’s Shanghai composite is higher by 0.86%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is trading higher by 0.55%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is marginally lower by 0.33%.


In Europe, German DAX moved up 0.18%, UK’s FTSE 100 edged up 0.07% and French CAC remained flat.


In Commodities, MCX Crude oil plunged 3.48% to trade at Rs 9,915 per barrel. MCX Copper is up 0.71% to trade at Rs 1,374 per kg.
